The business drivers for the upgrade focused on the benefits of Domino Attachment and Object Service (DAOS) - minimising redundant and duplicate file attachments in a separate repository on the Lotus Domino server for attachments to help to reduce total cost of ownership and performance.
Typical disk space savings range from 40% to 60% (results will vary), which helped Bristan reduce energy consumption via physical disks, I/O, and helped reduce costs associated with managing their data. These new capabilities helped with resource and cost savings while maintaining compatibility with existing Lotus Notes and Domino applications and infrastructure.
In addition to DAOS, another key benefit is the reduced administration burden with Lotus Domino domain monitoring (DDM), a problem determination resource that provides a view of the overall status of multiple servers across the domain. Server misconfigurations, performance bottlenecks and security issues now require only a minimal amount of administration with Lotus Domino configuration tuner (DCT). DCT generates reports that explain the issues uncovered, suggested mitigations, and references to supporting publications so deployments are more robust and experience better performance.
